At Tampa Bay Reflux Center, our primary goal is to help educate patients and update their medical care providers regarding the latest advances in reflux management. By focusing on one disease, we have become experts in the diagnosis and surgical management of typical GERD and its atypical variants, such as LPR (Laryngopharyngeal Reflux).

Acid reflux, a symptom commonly associated with GERD (Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease), affects around 60 million Americans every month and 25 million people every day. Acid reflux is caused by a weak lower esophageal sphincter (LES) that allows stomach acid and bile to leak into the esophagus.

Currently in the United States alone, patients are spending over $10 billion a year on over the counter and prescription medications to treat acid reflux. Many of these medications have been linked to long-term health risks, and although they successfully ease the symptoms of chronic acid reflux and GERD for a time, none of them treat the root cause of these symptoms.

We believe the only way to truly cure acid reflux and GERD is to treat the disease itself. We have perfected three cutting edge anti-reflux surgical procedures at our center to help provide permanent solutions for our patients dealing with acid reflux and GERD. We are the only center in the Tampa Bay are that offers all three procedures. We feel that by offering all of them, we are able to tailor fit the appropriate solution for each of our patients.

Nissen Fundoplication

Nissen Fundoplication is a surgical procedure designed to prevent acid reflux by reinforcing a weak LES with the patient's stomach. The surgery consists of folding the stomach around the lower esophagus, thereby recreating a lower esophageal acid barrier.

Transoral Incisionless Fundoplication is an incision-free technique that offers patients a method of anatomically correcting their weak sphincter, reconstructing the defective muscular ring  and strengthening the LES to minimize the occurrence of acid reflux.
